History:

Over an important discussion about life, the universe and everything, or the usual formal chat over msn as it is nowadays, Will and James thought it was time to say 'Oi John, bandage'. After 10 minutes of careful deliberation they decided it was time to get a drummer, namely Macca.

They then started to think they were beasting it, Will and James decided they would sing as they didn't know anyone else who could do so. They started pumping out covers and originals for the next 4 months, until it hit them. They had no bassist. They then went on a crusade for a bassist for the next 2 months, until they came across Edwards.

Now, there are problems when recruiting new members, they may be nervous to start off with, or not keen on the band material, the problem here was that Edwards had no bass, in fact, he had never touched one in his life. He then played a piece of wood Will found under his stairs for a while, before finally purchasing his very own bass.

At the time we couldn't think of a genre for our band, but now, looking back, we can safely say, we were shit. After numerous more fun filled practices, the prospect of playing a gig became more realistic. Macca decided to throw a party which we could play at, which was a huge hit, making Macca famous, and the party being reminisced of as 'Macca's Party', later to become 'Macca's First Party' as he had a second.

However Macca shared musical differences with the band and after a couple of gigs, including a show with signed band Fony, they parted company. Will Knowlman was known for drumming, amongst other things. We expected him to say no at first, but thought he'd think about it and change his mind...we asked him, he said no but thought about it and changed his mind. His band life was short lived, before one potentially successful gig he'd decided band life wasn't for him, after one potentially successful, yet "alright" gig, Will had second thoughts but stuck to his decision to leave.

For about ten minutes on the Friday before the gig when Will told the band he was leaving they were in disarray. They didn't know what they should do, until James then suggested young rebel Chris Brown for a position on drums. He wasn't a drummer, but when he had been in the musicians' room a couple weeks before in school with Will and James he rocked it out on the kit with them playing Nirvana's smells like teen spirit. They were impressed by this, and decided he was the man for the job; they instantaneously hunted him down and offered him the place. He was sceptical at first as he knew the commitment and amount of work he would have to put in, plus he didn't have a drum kit.

Luckily, something from the heavens must have made Will want to buy a drum kit. This he did off eBay a couple of weeks before Chris was asked to join. It was a relatively decent drum kit and Chris bought this of will at a discount price. Chris fitted in nicely and got familiar with the songs almost straight away, impressive stuff from a non-drummer, we continued to write more songs, with the help of Chris and played our first few gigs with him - we were going places, or back to the Welsh Harp for a few more times. We became tighter as a band but there was something missing, instead of adding something, the band separated from Edwards, who hinted that his heart wasn't in it any longer, leaving the band as a three piece.

With no qualified bass player in the band, it looked slightly worrying, but Kennedy had prepared and had some decent bass equipment. Kennedy learnt to play bass fairly quickly and Will latched on to the basics soon enough. Neither Will nor Kennedy wanted to be branded as just the bass player (who does?), after months of being the guitarists. They decided to share the bass and guitar, and they would swap halfway through the set. It sounded like a sketchy idea, and looked like one after our first go when it all went wrong really...but we found a way around it and mastered the change soon enough.

We felt we could become tighter as a three piece so stuck with the current arrangements, we wrote some more songs, slowly developing our own style and getting rid of the older crap. After more successful gigs, If Only were becoming a more well-known band, people were actually starting to think we could play. Then, Wired 2004 came along and we decided to enter.

Following several e-mails to various people, we found who we needed, George Moorey, he sorted us out and we ended up in Wired 3 (2004). This gave us all sorts of new opportunities. We had money, a first for any of us. With this we went recording, made our first E.P., had a photoshoot with Tom Oldham and invested in starting our very own merchandise range!

Then it finally came, the biggest gig of our lives (to date). The Gloucester Guildhall, this is what the band had been waiting for, and the original reason they decided Wired was where they wanted to be. At first the band were anxious, but optimistic as they knew they had it within them to rock out in front of Gloucester's finest. In due course the gig sold out half a week before it was played. Along with a few other local bands (Heroes Welcome, Stunted Giants and Irritant) we helped the Guildhall to be officially rocked out.

Following this the band had a break for their exams, whilst on this break it was decided that Chris should play his preferred instrument of guitar and a new drummer should be found. This was great in theory, but it was a while before a drummer was found, after several people were trialled one prevailed, namely Tav. After a few months of practising and writing the band felt it was time for the comeback, with a gig in February 2006.

The rest is yet to be set, will you be part? You better.
